conditions - Irritable bowel

Irritable bowel syndrome affects around one in ten people badly enough to visit their doctor. The causes of IBS are still unknown and sufferers usually have no physical abnormality of the bowel. It has therefore been suggested that there is a link between stress and IBS, but surely anyone with the symptoms of IBS is bound to feel stressed. It may cause abdominal pain, spasms or cramps, diarrhoea or constipation, bloating, nausea, excess wind, indigestion and even vomiting.

With such a range of symptoms, it is no wonder that there is no single definitive treatment.

Hypnotherapy has been shown to be a very effective treatment for many sufferers of IBS. Whether the symptoms are triggered by the bowel itself or by external factors, carefully selected hypnotherapy techniques have been used to good effect.
